The atmosphere at the Seattle Mariners' spring training facility in Peoria, Ariz., has shifted toward a sense of relief and anticipation. General manager Justin Hollander was recently seen welcoming back closer Andrés Muñoz, a sentiment he is expected to repeat as stars like Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodríguez trickle back from their stints in the World Baseball Classic (WBC).

The first group of returning players includes Muñoz and his Mexico teammate Randy Arozarena, as well as utility man Miles Mastrobuoni. While the return is a positive step, it is not without complications; Mastrobuoni had to exit Team Italy’s surprising semifinal run prematurely due to a strained calf sustained during a victory over Great Britain. Other roster members, including Josh Naylor, Eduard Bazardo, Dominic Canzone, Gabe Speier, Raleigh, and Rodríguez, are slated to arrive back in camp throughout the week.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson noted that while the high-stakes environment of the WBC has kept these players "game-ready," the current priority is reintegrating them into a routine as Opening Day on March 26 approaches. Muñoz, for instance, resumed Cactus League action on Sunday, striking out the side in one inning against the Cincinnati Reds. Despite only pitching in two official WBC games, Muñoz expressed that the experience of competing in major league stadiums in front of large crowds provided invaluable preparation for the regular season.

While most of the team is focusing on fine-tuning their skills, Mastrobuoni is focused on recovery. Though his injury is not considered major, his availability for the start of the season remains uncertain. Despite the setback, he expressed immense pride in Italy reaching the semifinals for the first time in tournament history. As the Mariners reunite, the organization is finally able to exhale, knowing their key contributors are back and largely healthy for the 2026 campaign.
